Reconditioning a HP 438A Power Meter:
The 438A Power Meter is completely disassembled and cleaned at a grounded, anti-static, work station. All accumulated dust, dirt, and grime is removed. The printed circuit boards are removed and the edge connectors are cleaned using lab grade denatured alcohol. The original fan noise is typically a little noisy even with a new fan. If the fan is excessively noisy it is replaced with a new, exact replacement, fan kit. The RAM backup battery is checked and replaced if necessary. The front panel display, and push button assembly is completely disassembled and serviced. The front panel is cleaned, stickers removed and polished to a like-new H-P luster. Likewise, the display lens is polished, if needed, and looks new when finished. The push button switches are cleaned, lubricated, and checked for performance. Any bad push buttons are replaced. The push buttons feel like new after servicing. Overall, the front panel will look as perfect as it can with very minor blemishes, if any at all. The outside of the instrument is thoroughly cleaned, and old stickers are removed. Missing or damaged housing trim pieces are replaced.
After reassembly, the Hewlett-Packard 438A Power Meter is calibrated per the H-P service manual. The three power supplies (+/- 15 VDC and 5 VDC) are checked for proper level and excessive ripple and noise, and are adjusted to spec., A/D slope adjustment, 220 Hz freq adj., range 4 and 5 shaper, power ref frequency and level adjustments are made. The instrument is then checked with a certified and calibrated, Agilent, 11683A Range Calibrator.  Lastly, new dust caps are provided on all connector housings to protect the connectors.
    Description/Features:
    The
    Keysight 438A power meter
is a dual-channel power meter designed specifically for ATE systems. The compact front panel saves critical rack space, while the dual-channel design allows simple and accurate measurements of the ratio and difference of power levels from two separate sensors.
    The
Keysight Agilent HP 8481D Power Sensor
, is designed for use with the 43x power meters, and provides extraordinary accuracy and stability. The H-P 8481D, Power Sensor, gives you extremely low SWR, and is traceable to the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). A calibration port is included with the above power meters for calibration with the power sensor. This calibration provides traceability to NIST, and it eliminates the uncertainties due to temperature changes and the variance in making measurements with different meter/sensor combinations.
The 8481D has the following operating parameters:
10 MHz to 18 GHz operational frequency range
-70 to -20 dBm power measuring range
    50 ohms
    Diode sensing element
    Excellent return loss (low SWR)
